cut version not up to snuff Reviewer: Anonymous 09-20-2003 I was so excited to find this cd for less than the rediculous price it's sold for on tv only to be let down when I realized this version, with the exact same title and cover, only has about half the songs as the other. As it turns out the songs I really wanted aren't even on this one. There needs to be a big sign on the front of the cd to warn customers they are not getting what they think they found.

Wanted this Century: Singers Who Can Provide Good Stories Reviewer: jdstrickland Smithfield, NC 09-15-2002 If this CD was meant to be a conceptual release, then it would be of the following theme: since the 1970's, the commercially successful artists who are great, storytelling singers are becoming a dying breed. It seems that nowadays, when the artists at the top of the charts have a tale to tell over the radio, they are giving lewd, promiscuous accounts or recounts that many deem unsuitable for any listener, especially young children.
I am thankful that there are those within the recording industry who can compile songs from yesteryear and, in turn, nicely assimilate them into a diverse, yet cohesive, package. Rod Stewart, Johnny Cash, Gilbert O' Sullivan, and Charlie Daniels on the same CD??? How? Quite simply, they each have a good, decent story to tell, even if the tunes are occasionally a little on the cheesy side.
Perhaps with the success of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? Soundtrack from 2000, which has some great storytelling themes in itself, the art of presenting a song as, once again, a good, decent story (as in Once Upon A Song) as opposed to one that is bad and condescending will be revived. But I am not holding my breath.

Childhood Memories Reviewer: Gregory ( Havre de Grace, MD 05-16-2002 This cd brings back many memories of childhood when songs usually had a story to tell and we could use our imaginations. Now mtv does that for us (unfortunatly). All of the songs are great with the exception of "alone again, naturally". I would highly recommend this collection .

Go for it Reviewer: Davey Merritt NC 04-10-2002 Can't go wrong withJohnny Cash and SUE.You certainly can'tgo wrong with HarryChapin and The Cats in the cradle.Personal fave of mine is Harper Valley PTAThis one has a lot of classic songs. It has a lot of DUDS too.But for the classicsongs on this. I'mgoing to say GO FORIT.

A Real Memory Jogger CD Reviewer: Irvin Goodman Cincinnati, OH 11-20-2001 This brand new CD has a load of great music (18 songs in all) by some of my favorite artists. A number of these I haven't heard in years. Songs range from American Pie by Don McLean, At Seventeen by Janis Ian, Me and Bobby McGee by Janis Joplin to Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and The Pips, and The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia by Vicki Lawrence. You're sure to relive some good times, like I did, with this great CD. You can't go wrong with this one !!
