Wont leave the ground -- bought 3 of them
Reviewer: Malhar Shah   CA, US    10-16-2005
Bought three of these from the NYC store last week for my cousins. They all worked great for the first 2-3 minutes. After recharging, all spun but did not take off.

Very cool idea, but an extremely bad product. I wonder how they made it work in the demo.

Keep your receipts and the packaging.

    Hover Copter is Cool!
Reviewer: Happy Customer "Cindy"   New York    08-10-2005
I walked into the Toys R Us in NYC this past weekend and was blown away when I saw the Hover Copter being demonstrated in the "high ceiling" store. Very cool. I had to have one. I am just a 47 year old kid but I also let my son who's 16 play with it, and he's having fun with it. My only complaint is that the charge only gives you maybe 5-8 minutes of play time, but its quick to charge up again and it is so cool to do in our front yard at night with the LED lights. Looks like a flying saucer or something....they will only improve on this toy - its a great idea. (...)

    A Great Toy
Reviewer: Anonymous       07-22-2005
It's really a great toy and its really fun to play with but you should only get it for older kids who are responsible for their possesions, and are careful because it isn't a very durable toy but if your kid is careful its definetly worth the money.

Not as fragile as it seems
Reviewer: R. Rivera   Wahiawa, Hawaii    07-20-2005
My son loves his Hover Copter. I thought it looked a little fragile for the type of toy it was but it turns out it is much tougher than it seems. My son plays pretty rough with it and even landed his upside-down in a mud puddle! It of course didn't work after that and he was upset and ready to throw it away. We let it dry out and the next day it worked fine again. The charge doesn't last too long but it also doesn't take too long to charge enough to play again. Makes a great gift!

THIS IS GREAT!! Read this to know the truth!!

Dont listen to anyone else. they just are too rough with it . Your not stpposed to crash it . believe me.. if you are gentle and listen to directions youll have sooo much fun.If you looked on TV and really wanted this toy than buy it. Everyone else is just to rough. Its all worth it. And besides if your scared to buy it use a gift card and it wont be a waste of that much if it doesnt work which i really doubt would happen. when mine crashed my dad fixed it in about 2 minutes and if it accidently crashes agian he said He'll fix it agian and be just as good. Just one thing badYou cant control if it goaes left or right unless you really really try.

I got this toy at sports authority for 5 bucks on the clearence table I think used! Since they don't have a review thing I just came here. The bad part about this toy is mine started to spin out of control lopsided. I fixed it with tape. I saw mini ones at potomac mills for I think 40$. I highly recomend this toy to kids 10 and older. It takes 15 minutes (very short) to charge. In that review that they charged it over night, DO NOT DO THAT! only charge it for 15 minutes.

Ok if you don't mind paying 20 dollars for playing with it for three days
Reviewer: Gary       06-30-2005
My sister and I bought this toy a few days ago. I dont' want to call it a bad toy because it really is a cool toy due to the fact that even my dad was playing with it. Yet, it has almost no chance of surviving more than three days. Any flying foam toy that is held together by tape has no chance of surviving more than three days. I knew this when we bought it, but it looked cool so we didn't mind. First off, the chip on top that gives power to the propeller is not even protected, so any bad crash could result in damage to parts of the chip (this is what happened with us). Apparently, the chip was damaged and the propeller stopped spinning. Also, the lights on teh outer edge were also damaged due to faulty wiring and the fact that the wires were held on by tape. In addition, after the first day or so, we noticed that the performance time was decreasing. It went from ten mins, to five mins, down to barely a minute. WEll despite all that bad stuff, a good thing about it is that the foam is pretty durable for crashes. Anotehr is that it's very entertaining especially in the dark. I'd recommend this for someone over 10 as it requires patience and care due to the fact it is a little hard to keep it from crashing and anyone under 10 is too careless to take care of it. If you're into just cool concepts buy this toy but don't expect it to last for very long. Lucky for us, we saved the box, so we're gonna return it. Good for a couple days of fun like an amusement park...almost.

LOTS OF FUN AND NO PROBLEMS

My 5-year-old son played with a Hover Copter at a friend's house and loved it so much I just had to get him one. Well, after reading the reviews here I was skeptical, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. I'm sure glad I did, 'cause it works just great and our son loves it. You charge it 10-15 minutes and then you can fly it 10-15 minutes. In our house, this cycle gets repeated over and over 'cause our son can't get enough! He likes to fly it up almost to the 2-story ceiling of our family room and down again. We haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the other reviews. Don't know if it makes a difference, but we have the 49MHz model.

My 7-year old received this toy for his birthday and was very eager to try it out. The initial charge worked, and he was able to fly it for a few minutes. After that...it stopped working. We tried charging it the next day, and it wouldn't charge again. Unfortunately, the box was thrown away, so we couldn't even return it. My son was pretty upset about it. Apparently we're not the only ones who experienced this problem. Don't buy this toy, and if you do; be sure to keep the box and receipt for a while; most likely you'll need to return it!

The concept is really cool, but the toy is disappointing! We returned this twice to Toys R Us because the remote control didn't work. The motor refused to spin. Don't even bother - your kids will get really excited about it, but it either won't work, or it will break.

I called the 800 number back in December and asked for a new one its april and i still haven't recieved one THE COMPANY DOESNT EVEN CARE or they're just so backed up and sending the products back to people because none of them worked.

It was fun while it lasted
Reviewer: F. Wong       04-22-2005
I purchased 2 of these, one for myself and one for my daughter. After charging the recommended time, the first hovercopter flew wonderfully for about 3 min., then it could no longer get itself off the ground. So I plugged it back into the charger. Despite repeated attempts, this hovercopter never took a charge again and eventually was unable to spin at all. Spash 1 hovercopter. (49mhz))

Opened the second hovercopter (27mhz)....charged it up the recommended time...wouldn't spin at all. Then by luck, my daughter squeezed the 49mhz trigger she had from the first hovercopter. And it worked! So the company must have package mis-matched transmitters and receivers. This second hover copter flew beautifully, and flew for almost 10 minutes. This time, the hovercopter was able to be recharged multiple times. Now comes the bad news, the next morning, this hovercopter showed the same problems at the first one. It could no longer take a charge.

Both are being returned today.

We gave this to our 7 year old son. We all were having so much fun with it, as it is a really cool concept. After playing with it for about 20 minutes, it began to make a funny noise and not fly anymore, so we thought it needed to be recharged. After charging again, it was still not flying and still making that funny noise. Upon further inspection, we realized that the gears that turned the propeller were plastic and were now stripped. Since the toy was so much fun, we exchanged it for a new one. This time, it worked too well! About the third launch, it took off 10 feet....20 feet...my son let go of the trigger....up it flew still.....30 feet....I-don't-know-how-many feet...up and over the house and gone!!!! I don't know what happened. The motor must have gotten stuck on somehow. My son was so upset, and how do we return it this time? I just hope it doesn't cause intergalactic miscommunication!!

My wife just bought this toy for our daughter, since it looked so interesting. The first night, we all had fun playing with it. By the next morning (after charging it all night), it would only lift about two or three inches off the floor. By that afternoon, the battery would no longer accept a charge - the toy was dead. After tinkering with it for about an hour, I gave up and had to console my daughter's tears. From reading previous reviews, it seems that some are lucky enough to have bought one of the saucers that was assembled with little or no flaws, and others (most of us) are unlucky enough to purchase a piece of crap. These toys are poorly assembled from the cheapest materials available (including the so-called "rechargeable" batteries). Unless you're a gambler, stay away from this way-overpriced toy. Buying junk like this will only end up breaking your child's heart.

Reviewer: J. Dugan "Johnny"       03-08-2005
There are alot of bad reviews for this item, I really enjoyed the one where they said "it doesnt work out of the box" DUH! It's not supposed to, didnt they see the AC charger for the saucer? Didnt they read the instructions? You have to charge it for 15 mins first! A short time to wait.

Yes it is made of lightweight styrofoam (most model planes are too!) and it has to be charged/recharged and doesnt fly too long on a charge but that is the cool technology that lets such a thing as a real flying saucer work at all! It has to real lightweight and has to have a special lightweight battery! Every hold even one AAA battery in your hand? its heavy how is a under 12" vehicle going to fly with weight?! Its basic aerodynamics people!
It is not for small children who will smash it up and chew on it ok?
It is a very cool real flying saucer, I recommend you fly it outdoors on grassy surface and the one with the lights is real cool! No it isnt going to last forever or work 100% perfect every time but what do you want for under $20 for a real working flying saucer anyways! jeez!

A lot of people say this toy is bad. I don't see why. I saw a salesperson flying one of these. It looked pretty good. So we bought it. Then we tried it at home. It worked really well. It charges 15 minutes, and flies for about 10. If you mistreat it, it will break! I think this is a great toy for kids... that know how to use it... and are not too young.

The hovercopter is made of durable styrafoam. IT WILL NOT BREAK. UNLESS YOU DO NOT USE IT PROPERLY!

Hover Copter Too Flimsy For Consumers
Reviewer: R. Haugen   Long Island NY    02-26-2005
After seeing this copter at a XMAS party, I was impressed enough to order two on line for a low price. They arrived fast. One did nothing at all and went right back in the box. The other revved up; but was so wobly and out of balance - would try to hover and then flip over! (They are VERY delicate and made of lightweight styrene foam --so they can "fly"). I was disappointed and I'm guessing the two I saw at XMAS party were flukes. Not worth the trouble and I doubt one can expect a better model in this design. A double return - not even sure if I've been credited back the cost of shipping return.

    Worthless Toy
Reviewer: Harding Family   Oneida, NY    01-28-2005
The hover-copter is worthless junk. My husband purchased one for my son for Christmas and it flew for about five minutes before it broke...the propellor woudn't stop spinning even after the remote was turned off. I called the 800 number and after an incredibly long wait was told to return it to the toys r us or they would gladly ship me a new one for $8.95 (shipping and handling). I exchanged it at toys r us for a new one, charged the copter, put in a new battery and the new one doesn't work...this time the copter doesn't respond to the remote. I called the company off and on for four hours and when I finally got through the guy didn't have any suggestions other than to return it...which I will gladly do. Save yourself the hassle by not buying this toy. It is unfortunate that I am unable to give this product zero stars because that is truly what it deserves!

    Read The Packaging
Reviewer: Nate       01-15-2005
This toy is great. I think you all need to look at the packaging and see the line that says "AGES 10 AND UP" its there for a reason you know. Children under ten are going to have some difficulty with the styrofoam's durability. If you still want to get this for you child, be sure you explain to them that its not a frisbee

The entire family enjoyed this toy!
Reviewer: Angie B.   Los Angeles    01-15-2005
No, it's not all that durable. Yes, you need to use a little common sense with this toy. There's a propeller on it, so you need to be very careful about fingers and other stuff that might get caught in it. You might need to clean the propeller of hairs once in awhile. But even with all the care you should give this toy, my 8 yr old still loves it. We've all had so much fun with this toy! Probably not a good toy for the under 8 age set.

    Not worth the money.
Reviewer: L. Ryan   Lorain, OH United States    01-09-2005
It's an intriguing concept...a hover copter you control by remote and can use to play games, do stunts, and race against other hover copters. But you can't really do any of that with this hover copter. The remote controller only allows you to control its speed....it doesn't allow you to control the direction of the hover copter. So it goes up and down without a problem or you can make it hover in mid-air at a slower speed...but as far as moving it left or right, it doesn't do that. I don't know what kinds of games or stunts you could do with it. A neat concept, but poor functionality overall, and the blade isn't the safest for any kid...at full speed, a hand in the plastic blade hurts quite a bit. I do not recommend this item at all.

fun while it lasts...not too long
Reviewer: M. Sund   VA    01-06-2005
I bought it for my daughter. It was fun for the first day, after that it had trouble holding its charge. It would fly for about 3 min. Then the styrofoam began to have cracks in it. Finally, the propellor kept falling off and it would not get off the ground at all. All this happened in the course of 5 days with normal use!! It was fun while it lasted. Buy it only if you consider it a disposable toy!

Caution - don't let your kids use this toy with a dumb uncle
Reviewer: PMcD101   Lexington, MA    01-04-2005
My son loved this toy Christmas day. He was careful with the styrofoam and quickly learned how to fly it indoors without crashing it into the ceiling. I was sure that after a while, his 4 year old brother would end up breaking it. I was wrong. After one day with it, his 25 year old uncle decided it would be a good idea to use it out in the snow, despite its exposed motor. Naturally, the motor got wet and shorted out. So overall, I'd say this toy is great, but fragile. Don't use it in the rain or snow and definitely don't allow dumb uncles to use it.

Reviewer: Piece of Mind "Janel"   San Jose, CA    01-04-2005
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my five year old son. It broke in 20 minutes! I thought it would be the styrofoam body that would be the first to go but I was wrong, it was the propeller!! It just stopped working! It would spin but it was spinning the wrong way! Yeah, so now this thing is broken and my son is crying because he barely had a chance to play with it. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

    good, could be better
Reviewer: Anonymous       01-03-2005
First of all, this toy is very fun! You can make it go up and down, but not side to side. Me and my friend got it to go pretty high. Especially when we stood directly under it. However, you can only play with it for 5 min, and only with about 3 min of full power, then it runs out of power and you have to charge it for 15 minutes.
It has a little blinking light which looks neat-o in the dark. It's made of styrofoem with a little plastic propeller on the bottem which really hurts if you accidently put your finger in there. Over all, I'd say that you get what you pay for.

We bought this toy for our son for xmas. Initially, the copter was flying beautifully, hovering really high. After a few charges, the copter stopped holding the charge and would not fly over a foot off the floor. We tried to replace the 9 volt battery with a brand new one but this did not fix the problem. Needless to say, it lasted only 1 day. A lot of fun yet disappointing performance

I am 12 years old and I got it for Christmas, It is really cool at first because it works well, but after awhile you see the problems. It is Styrofoam and mine has not fully broke but it does not work all the time. I charge it for 20 to 30 minutes (more than needed) and after five mintes it just drops out of air and now on the third day I have it it goes to its advertised 30 or so feet but then when I bring it down and flyed it again it would'nt go past my knee! I have realized that you need to waste all the power before recharging but still it does not work like on the commercials. And it does not in no way allow the person flying it to control where it goes and you can't make it flie through tables and around chairs it just goes up and down, it is cool and fuin but when it stops working its just disapointing! Also the blades are kinda sharp and when it flies in our 20 foot high family room it will start spinning and hit the wall and crash down on my grandma, it cut my fingers a few times. I am taking mine back to the store tommorow and hoping to find another more sturdy, dependable and controlable. Overall I give it a thumbs up when it works and thumbs down when it dosen't.

P.S Don't land it in water or severe snow it won't work ever again!!!

On durability well its made of a little tuffer styrofome but it dosnt take a genius to see you cant crash the thing that much or its gonna be history so use a little restraint but still it can take quite a few tumbles. All in all its a pretty cool toy and we have already gotten our $20 worth out of it in 2 days.

Reviewer: Linda M. Wheeler   Upstate NY    12-26-2004
The big problem with our Hover Copter seems to be that the propeller blades touch the surface of whatever its taking off from. As a result it gets stuck and then flips over on take off. A take off from a smooth surface with lots of room seems best but not on an asphalt road either.

He charged the battery, took it outside and the saucer part melted and shorted out. I got this toy for Christmas. I love it! It may look fragile, made out of some sort of foam, but I've crashed it many times and it still flies. It's kind of noisy, though, and you can't control its direction. It's hovering capability is mainly why I wanted it, and it does that fine. If you fly it indoors, I would recomend a large room with not many or no easily breakable things, as it could bump into a wall and crash. But all in all, its great!

Well, the first charge lasted about 10 minutes, and he enjoyed the flashing colors that the HoverCopter made. After the first charge, we immediately recharged, and each time it lasted about 5 minutes. As stated in other reviews, the toy is made of styrofoam, and is very flimsy. What a disappointment. I would not recommend this toy to anyone!!!

Hover copter fun for kids...and adults
Reviewer: Steven T. Pavek   Wisconsin    12-13-2004
I read the reviews before I bought and it helped me out. Some additional suggestions would be to add tape to the join connections to and the plastic piece covering the propeller (if it breaks it will wobble or stop working). One more thing..my son's hovercopter stop going more than a foot off the ground. What had happened was that the two propellers had flattened out. I twisted them by hand and wa-la up it went. I tried it in an indoor atrium and it went up 40 feet in about 15 seconds. That really impressed the adults who are kids at heart!!!

    Common Sense
Reviewer: S. Houdek "Overlots"       12-11-2004
Of course it's made of styrofoam! But it is high density styrofoam which resists breakage. Of you buy a cheap knock off, you may be getting an inferior product. I CAN see where an excited kid would TEAR it out of the packaging and break it in half or not read the directions which say to NOT charge before the first flight. Doing so may reduce future battery performance. The other thing is to use a FRESH 9volt battery in the hand controller.

The Hover Copter can be directionally controlled by getting it to fly in a circle, then using thrust to balance it out, but it takes some practice. We have had a blast flying two or more together. It's a very cool toy, but it is not indestructable and care should be taken to NOT let the dog attack it or let 2 unruly children fight over it.

My friend had a similar product that ended up breaking in a bad crash so i went to bring mine out. I got it charged it for about half an hour, and i could'nt get the stupid thing off the ground. Its so frustrating, i dont even know if its broke. Anyways im chargin it through the night and if it dont work, believe me this company is never gonna get any money from me again until they make the thing less fragile, it probably at 1 point landed akward and just randomly broke. Newayz if your thinking about buying this product, wait for a new model.
