Handy Stitch Handheld Sewing Machine

Description: Handy Stitch is the portable hand-held sewing machine that packs the power of larger, more expensive machines. It's great for quick repairs or jobs that conventional desktop machines can't handle, like sewing curtains while on the rod, or mending a torn pocket without having to remove your pants.

Beginner here. Needle broke within third use. Before that the machine would get stuck on even very light material (summer cotton). Not practical for sewing in a straight line, and the seams were so weak (even after making repeated passes) I was afraid to move my arms when I put my 'tailored' shirt on lest they tear. Very disenheartening. Learn my lesson!

Don't Waste Your Money Like I Did

I was unable to get the Handy Stitch to work properly. I would start to sew then get snagged. It would sew in the same spot and bunch up over and over again. I just gave up trying to get it to work. Also I couldn't get it to work at all on thick fabric like wool pants. I also agree with another reviewer that it sad that Amazon allows this flawed product to be sold through Amazon.

    Works For A Guy
Reviewer: Robert Shuler   Friendswood, TX USA    12-05-2004
Hey, I'm a guy and I never used a sewing machine before in my life, but this one worked for me. It came threaded and ready to go. I managed to pull the thread out while performing a test stitch, but was able to re-thread it with the usual amount of tedious effort and the included needle threader.

It works much better than the other reviews here would suggest. The caveat, unnecessary to point out to any experienced sewer, is that since you have to hold it in one hand, you don't have two hands free to guide the material. This might mean you'll have to pin folded seams. Or not, depending on how clever you are and how neat you want it to be.

    Not really worth the money

I bought this at Michael's Craft Store, with a 40% off coupon, bringing it down to about $6.00.. and although it may look convenient, if you have ANY sewing skills whatsoever, I would HIGHLY recommend just sewing something by hand instead of spending the money on this handheld sewing machine. It's not worth the money or the hassle in trying to get it to work. It's really loud too, and takes 4 AA batteries, which makes it pretty klunky to hold.

    frustrating

I enjoy sewing, but don't like to lug around my mom's machine for simple things like hems. Luckily, I only spent $4 on this useless thing. I attempted to hem a pair of jeans, and it's fine for about 4 stitches, but then it stops feeding the fabric and the thread gets all jammed up into a huge knot. The box says it works on denim, but it didn't for me. Maybe it was just the material, because when I tested it on a scrap piece of regular fabric, it was fine. Also, it's difficult to make it stitch in a straight line.

this is a great starter machine but!

this is a great starter sewing machine but it is way too loud! i am a eleven year old kid and a that has a great intrest in sewing but your better off with a needle! it is very hard to put the thread through the deformed needle. and the commercial is misleading. why is the lady holding a huge machine to make a small stitch! and women, would you want to carry this in your purse!?

Save your money and buy something else.
I tried so many kinds of batteries to get it going and it still didn't work. Amazon should be ashamed to be selling this.

    The Worst

I purchased this in order to avoid dragging out my regular sewing machine for minor sewing projects; however, after several tries, I could not get it to work properly. I even asked a tailor friend to see if she could get it to sew anything at all... . It was hopeless. I would suggest that you don't waste your money. Would have returned it but I think I waited too long. It's back to my regular sewing machine

    Pretty Crappy
Reviewer: Brenna   AZ    05-10-2006
When I got this, I was really excited about it, but then I usedx it and was VERY dissapointed. I could only get thin materials into it to sew in the first place, and then when I got done with the sewing (which took forever), I could hardly get the string to cut off by it's self. Not only that, but I could only get it to go at a very awkward angle. And then, after all the work for what should have been a simple seam stitch, it came appart!

It's a piece of crap. Don't waste your money.
