Insect Aside model is the same, only $10 cheaper / battery eventually ends usefulness

Folks, this is the same thing as the Insect Aside model which sells for $10 cheaper, right down to the logo on the handle. The only difference is with the Brookstone model you pay $10 to Brookstone to be the middle man. Take a look at the Insect Aside and Brookstone pictures & specs and see for yourself:

Before I figured this out, I did buy the Brookstone model twice before as gifts so I'm pretty familiar with these. The upside on these vacuums is that they do work very well and whoever gets it will be happy for a while. The huge design flaw I want to warn everybody about, however, is that they run on Ni-Cad batteries that eventually go bad and you can't replace them, meaning your bug catcher is done. That's right, replacement batteries are not sold and they are not designed to be replaced, you have to buy a new bug catcher or go back to using your shoe to kill bugs. When this happens you can tak solace if you only spent $40 at Insect Aside rather than $50 at Brookstone.

Those familiar with Ni-Cad batteries will know that the best way to extend their life is to discharge them completely before recharging, but you try to explain to your wife why you discharged it and she has to wait 15 hours for it to recharge while there's a spider on her pillow. This would be a much much better product if it simply used alkaline batteries! I bought one for my bug-hating wife because I had to go out of town for a business trip. For such situations this vacuum is very ideal, so the vacuum serves a purpose. Just don't expect to buy one and have it last the rest of your life!
