    A great sleep aide!
Reviewer: Mac   Connecticut    10-11-2005
I always read reviews before I make a purchase online so I thought I would share my opinion on this product. I have 14 month old twin boys along with a five year old. Since the twins were babies, I have always had something running in their rooms during naps and at night to block out my 5 yr old and household noises. In the winter we were running a humidifier which provided great white noise. Then summer came along and we ran the air conditioner on low throughout the night. Once we took the air conditioner out, the white noise was gone and the twins were consistantly waking up during the night. I looked up white noise machines at amazon but I didn't want to spend a fortune on one. I found this and read the reviews so I bought it. I love it!!! It's not too big so I placed it on a dresser in the twins room. I like all the sounds but not too fond of the heartbeat (kinda sounds more like a knocking than a soothing heartbeat). The day I got it the babies slept through the whole night. I highly recommend this to anyone w/ a baby. Great product at a great price!!

    Great (when it works)

We've had ours for about 6 months. The white noises is great for keeping our 1 1/2 year old daughter asleep while we make noise in the house. However, the unit seems to have a problem with the electronix on the main board. Everything seems to be packed so tight into the housing that pressing the buttons or adjusting the volume moves something inside ever so slightly and the sound cuts out. We must then press on the housing the get the sound to come back on (it isn't that the unit turns off, it just kind of mutes). When we get the sound back we often wind up having to repeat the pressing several times to get the sound to stay on for good. Nothing more annoying than putting our daughter down, getting into to bed ourselves and then hearing the on the baby monitor that the noise machine went off.
I would return the unit for service, but Homedics charges $15 to service IN WARRANTY products, and that basically is the same cost as buying a new one.

    Great for baby!

This is an excellent, cost-effective way to get that "white noise" effect for the nursery. We've used this to help our baby get to and stay asleep. It's great for blocking out background noise so the baby isn't startled awake and the "white noise" option mimics the sounds that babies hear in the womb. It's also much cheaper than many alternatives you'll see at baby stores. There are 5 settings; including heart beat (which I think sounds a little creepy), rainfall, stream, waves, and summer night. Before I had a baby I used to enjoy the summer night setting. The crickets you could hear in the background reminded me of home.
