Reviews (30):
If you like dancing, you'll like this! Reviewer: Anonymous 08-14-2004 If you like dancing, you will like this video. It is great to see people of all shapes & sizes doing this tape. The workout is long, but never too intense. And you can do just a few routines if you choose, since the video is divided into segments. If you need to get fit, I highly recommend this!

It's Fun! Reviewer: Anonymous 01-15-2005 Richard Simmons is a very motivating and charismatic figure. He makes me even more determined to lose weight. The workout is low impact & lots of fun!

A Fun Video Reviewer: Anonymous 01-17-2005 This is a fun video. It took me about 3 times through to learn the moves, but the music is great. This tape tones all your muscles & the dance moves are fun. I'm still using the video after a year.

Like The Crunches Reviewer: Anonymous 04-04-2004 I really like the crunches on this video. But I prefer the Blast and Tone, 80's Blast off, and 60's Blast off over this one.

Takes Awhile To Learn Reviewer: Anonymous 04-21-2003 This video has a good mix of high & low intensity routines. It gives me a great workout.

Great Music! Reviewer: Anonymous 08-26-2002 This is a good combination of challenging exercise,--aerobics & crunches. I really enjoyed the music as well.

Didn't Like This Reviewer: Anonymous 07-03-2002 The production quality is awful on this tape. Also I found the whooping and hollering to be very distracting. The moves were difficult to learn as well.

Not A Challenge Reviewer: Anonymous 03-25-2002 I did not feel challenged by this video at all. I did not sweat & my heart rate did not increase at all. I also found the routines difficult to learn.

Good But Not Great Reviewer: LraPetrie Ridgefield, NJ USA 09-08-2005 It was typical wonderful Richard who we all know and love. A lot of the moves are done to the count of 4 instead of 8 which can be a bit hard to keep up with. Just when I get the hang of it, they switch up to the next move. I find I spend a lot of time trying to catch up. Granted, I am sweatin' but it would be a more productive sweat if it was doing the moves instead of trying to keep up with the change to the next move. I think they may have wanted to try to keep it interesting by changing the moves frequently but it was just a bit too much. The music is still great and Richard keeps us motivated as always. I'm still a fan of the original Sweatin' to the Oldies :)

Pretty Good Reviewer: K. Castaldo Massachusetts 08-27-2005 I remembered this video fondly from my childhood so I purchased it. My fiance and I use this DVD regularly to keep in shape. It is fun and we get a work out. The music is good and the people in the video are diverse. The only drawback is Richard doesn't always explain his next moves.

Great for starting out Reviewer: C. Stroup "G. Bunny" Sacramento, CA 06-17-2005 I used this video when I was just getting back into exercising. I enjoyed the corny aspects of the video, and the interesting moves. I don't use it now, however, because it is not challenging enough to get me heart rate up. When I tried it recently, I found that I needed to add jumps and skips to his moves in order to get a good cardio workout. But it was an important tool to help me get where I am today.

Refreshing Reviewer: Anonymous 04-23-2005 Getting back in shape is hard enough and this video is a refreshing way to do that. The music is pleasant, the moves easy to follow, and the people are real.
It is a refeshing activity at the end of a stressful day.
I'm a new fan of Richard Simmons!

Lots of fun Reviewer: Anonymous 07-29-2004 I have a few of Richard's videos. I think this is the most fun of all of them. The music is fantastic, and the dancing is a lot of fun. It probably the most strenuous workout of the Richard videos I have. I love the crunch section at the end. If you are new to excercising, or are really out of shape, I'd recommend Sweatin' to the Oldies 2 as a first video instead of this one, since it is not as strenuous, and has a better warmup and cooldown section. However, when you're in the market for a second video, it's Disco Sweat all the way! The only thing that kept me from giving this video a full 5 stars is because Richard doesn't really describe the movements very well. I find the crunch section really hard, and I think it's because I'm not doing the moves properly. I still enjoy it very much, though, and I do it all the time.

get up and dance Reviewer: Olivia A. Silensky los angeles, ca United States 07-16-2004 I have one month without cigarettes after smoking 41 years and 3 weeks of doing disco sweat...needless to say i couldnt exercise when i smoked.
this is the best of the several simmons tapes ive gotten.the moves are simple to follow and the camera pans on the entire body instead of closeup of faces(which do not help in seeing what steps he's doing) you do sweat and it feels great..
have done these exercises every day for last month.
i especially like richards tapes because he has real looking people there. wish there was older people in this video(like me)
but hey richard and i are of an age.

Es maravilloso Reviewer: Gabriela Vazquez Aguilera Naucalpan de Juarez, Estado de Mexico Mexico 05-16-2004 Estoy encantada con el dvd, si he bajado de peso.

Terrible Reviewer: "pbaker5485" Nolensville, TN United States 05-11-2004 I ordered this video because I am a BIG woman and in dire need of exercise. It is impossible to try to keep up with this video. Definitely not for a beginner. No warm up and I have no idea how these women keep up. Waste of money.

worst video i ordered Reviewer: "pbaker5485" Warrington, PA United States 03-27-2004 I'm amazed at the 4-1/2 stars for this video, as it was the worst of all I have bought. Simmons doesn't tell what moves he's going to make, and only repeats them 2-3 times, so I was always playing catchup. Meanwhile, he sings over the background music, ruining the one redeeming value! The bizarre cinematography is often focused on one person's face, or knee, etc., so that the exercise isn't visible at all. I much preferred the "Crunch" series, especially Cardio Salsa, which I purchased at K-Mart. They explain the exercises, warn you when a change is coming, and I actually could follow along the first time.

At last, some humour Reviewer: Anonymous 01-30-2004 I am an English home gym rat, who has recently added a pile of American exercise DVDs to my collection for extra variety. Your fitness stuff is, mostly, far better than ours but blimey, your gurus take themselves seriously! Richard Simmons is the first American fitness expert who seems really to enjoy what he is doing and to make his class have a great time too. And that means us, as members of the class of course. I workout six days a week, sometimes twice a day, so I am really used to exercise, and because of that this wasn't terribly physically challenging. However, I love the fact that it is easy on your joints (the one common fault of American programmes, I find - apart from po-facedness - is being too hard on the knees) and it is a hoot to do and you *are* constantly moving. Ideal for my light exercise days.

Excellent Workout-- Richard makes excercising fun., Reviewer: "mdunn2@adelphia.net" Pittsburgh, PA United States 06-27-2003 I am not a real big fan of excercise. I have to admit that "Disco Sweat" has made something I dread more fun. I enjoy the music and Richard makes it fun. One really does work up a sweat. Even when the sweat is dripping off the body, one cannot stop the workout. You just want to continue.

I forgot how fun it is to dance Reviewer: Anonymous 05-23-2003 I just did the workout for the first time, and I tell you, Richard Simmons between making me smile and having so much fun dancing, I barely felt like I was working out besides the sweat streaming down my face. There is also a surprise ending. I think you will love to do this on a daily basis.I can't wait to do it again.

Much tougher than you'd think Reviewer: C. A. Sileo "marsupialgirl" 05-19-2003 This routine takes about 50 minutes, and that's 50 minutes of full-on, nonstop exercising. So don't fall into the trap of thinking that this is a piece of cake! It's a serious workout. But it is fun, fun, fun -- the songs are great, the dance steps are NOT difficult after the 2nd or 3rd try (and I'm a pure klutz), and Richard is funny and campy and utterly charming. It's hugely inspiring to see the other dancers, of all imaginable shapes and sizes moving through the routine; I especially loved the ending credits, where each one comes on and shares how much weight they've lost. Very motivating. Try this one, but be prepared, it's not for your light-workout days unless you're very fit. If you're a beginner or intermediate and want to give yourself a push, this is a fun way to do it!!

Pleasantly surprised! Reviewer: "issa7396" Orange County, CA 03-21-2003 This is my first Richard Simmons workout. I bought it figuring I'm either gonna love it or hate it. I was pleasantly surprised! There are so many things that I like about this workout! I love the music, all the songs chosen are geared towards positive self-esteem and self-acceptance. Richard Simmons is friendly and encouraging, not overly-enthusiastic as I would have expected. I liked that people of all sizes were working out, and everyone had wonderful energy! There are a lot of toning moves mixed in with the aerobics, which I wasn't expecting at all, such as plies for your legs and fly aways (I think that's what they're called) for your arms. Granted this workout isn't designed to give you a beach body, but it will give you basic muscle tone and improve your aerobic stamina. All the moves are low-impact, but can easily be adjusted to higher impact for those who are in better shape. This workout is a lot of fun and completely enjoyable!

Absolutely fabulous workout Reviewer: Erinn Steede Michigan 02-24-2003 I used this tape a few years ago and just recently found a copy of it again. It is fun enough to do over and over, even every day as I do. It is a trick to get used to the moves the first few times you do it, but once you get the hang of it it totally flows. Richard takes you through a series of highs and lows so that just when you feel you're about to break, he calms you down a bit; then by the next song you're on fire again and ready to kick it up! It is a long workout, and that too takes time to get used to, but as such it is very effective. Recommended to anyone who wants to lose weight, especially those of us who are VERY overweight and hate excercise!

You'll definitely sweat! Reviewer: Anonymous 12-18-2002 Good exercise program and fun! Takes a little while to get used to the routines, but you can learn fairly quickly.

Lift Your Spirits Reviewer: Anonymous 10-31-2002 If you are familiar with Richard's other dance videos, you will surely enjoy this DVD of disco dances. The moves are easy to catch onto, if you have been following the other videos...they are similar as far as using the grapevine move, lunges, reaches, foward and backward, etc. The music is catchy and Richard is at his best. I highly recommend this to persons who love encouragement and fun during exercise, for Richard praises and adds humor throughout the workout. Five stars!

Great Fun! Reviewer: "jodee6505" 07-29-2002 This DVD was realy enjoyable and very effective for beginners/intermediates...I really did work up a sweat doing it! I didn't find the choreography overwhelmingly complex-something anyone could pick up by the second time doing it. It would be nice to be able to check your heart rate (he just uses the exertion scale) but other than that,I thought it was great!

Great Cardio workout Reviewer: Anonymous 11-20-2001 This is the first fun work out video that I have found. I'm 34 and I like it because it gives a good cardiovascular work out, but is not overly strenuous. It is also the first video that I've found that leaves me feeling energized afterwards instead of exhausted. It is a bit hard to follow until you get used to it, but keep going and you'll get the hang of it.

Finally, a video that makes working out FUN!!! Reviewer: Anonymous 09-11-2001 This is, hands down, THE BEST exercise video purchase I have ever made! Now, I am someone that absolutely loathes to exercise, and have successfully dodged anything that resembled exercise in any form! This is the first video that I have been able to stick with long term without getting completely bored, burned out, or just plain sick of it. For me at least, the combination of Disco music with, basically, dance moves feel like a treat rather than hard, strenuous exercise. It did take a couple days, and putting the video on pause to learn the routines. However, DON'T get frustrated, the learning curve is only a couple days, and once you learn it, it is sooo much fun! I have used the VHS for 2+years and have bought a copy of the DVD because I have worn out my VHS copy! Buy it, you won't regret it!!!

Great when you get the hang of it! Reviewer: Anonymous 03-11-2001 This is a lot like Sweat and Shout with Disco music. I was VERY confused when I first tried it. In fact, I was so confused that I didn't even break a sweat because I spent too much time trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. The second time I did it, it was a lot better. "Shake Your Booty" is so much fun! My 5 year old son does it with me because he loves that song so much.
There's also 3 high-intensity intervals, which he never did in the "Sweatin' to the Oldies" series. This is supposed to make you burn fat more effectively. I've lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks from doing this every day and I don't have a whole lot more to lose. It's a low-impact, high-intensity workout. You get the same workout without hurting your joints and back.
Great buy!! I'd recommend this to anyone!

I've got Disco fever! Reviewer: Anonymous 01-17-2001 As a woman of 73, I was too old to appreciate the whole Disco movement when it began in the late 70's with Saturday Night Fever, starring that handsome rascal John Traviata. I didn't see the movie when it came out, but believe you me, I'm going to rent it as soon as I can get my son comes up to visit and fixes my VCR. If the movie is half as exciting and invigorating as this fabulous exercise video, then I'll be in for a real treat!
I own many of Richard's other tapes, and as much as I liked Sweatin' to the Oldies, this one is 10 times better! He really "lays the funk down," as the kids like to say. From the minute I pressed play I knew I had found the exercise routine for me. Even as an old woman I'm able to do most of the exercises, except for the ones where you need a partner. My husband Morty passed away 4 years ago. But that doesn't keep this rockin' granny from "keepin the beat" to the rest of this tape!
The only thing keeping me from giving this a perfect review is the fact that Richard drops his shorts inexplicably during the last routine. It's only a brief glimpse of his bottom, but I think it was unwarranted and I'm not sure why they put it in.
Other than that... a fantastic buy!
