Ultimate Voice Coach - Learn To Sing Like A Star! (2005)

Reviews (9):
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Reviewer: Ellen Hammon 09-27-2005 This DVD was terrible. Watching this video will NOT teach you how to sing and you definitely cannot follow along with it to practice. It made me want to cut my ears off. In all my years of singing and taking voice lessons I had no idea that such complete trash was out there!!!! The first "Vocal Coach" had people producing incorrect wide mouthed vowels that can not be described as an audible pitch that any human being can endure listening to. The second guy at least knew how to play the piano and was doing vocal exercises. But, his tapping the piano and telling people to "use your pee muscles" to sing is NONSENSE. I am shocked that this was ever released!! DO NOT BUY THIS MOVIE!

Absolute Garbage! Reviewer: Melissa "Shicago" 08-11-2005 You have a better chance of learning how to sing by going out and watching the drunks at karaoke.
Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson slapped their names and images on this useless and cheap product to make a quick buck. The "lessons" were recorded in what looks like a living room in someone's house where they threw tablecloths over the window to cut down on light.
The graphics are hoakey and childish. The producers must've enlisted the work of the SPECIAL ED GRAPIHICS DEPARTMENT. The quality of the product is absolute GARBAGE after you get by the marketing. Even Paula and Randy appear cheap and second rate in their 30 second bits. A HUGE DISSAPPOINTMENT. When I saw how bad ultimate voice coach was put together I felt like an absolute sucker. I read bad reviews and still bought it, and it's my own fault for being optimistic. I just wanted to learn how to sing. There have got to be better ways than this load of steaming $#!%

Don't let the cover full you Reviewer: Jeff Romulo Japan 05-25-2005 This DVD is for the very beginners. The coaches won't help you to sing like Mariah, Beyonce nor any of the member of Boyz II Men.

AMERICAN IDOL... LOOK OUT!!!!, Reviewer: VOICE COACH NY New York 05-04-2005 I am a vocal coah in NY. I ordered this DVD because I have quite a few students who want to try out for American Idol. I am happy to report that we have found the exercises on this DVD very useful and easy to follow. Not only have we been practicing together, but now my students can follow along at home. What a great idea! I hope you'll be seeing at least one of my students on the next season of American Idol!

Surprisingly Good!!! VERY EDUCATIONAL! Reviewer: Michael Brian New Jersey 05-02-2005 I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this product. I figured it was just another American Idol gimmick! I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was VERY HELPFUL! I have been able to strengthen my voice and increase my vocal range. Who knew!!! Thank you Gary Catona and Ron Anderson! I see why you are so famous!

Shameless promotion! Reviewer: Voice professional 04-30-2005 That anyone can learn to sing by reading a book or by watching this mis-guided DVD is mistaken. You ALWAYS need a second pair of ears to guide you, and Mr. Catona's idea that it is OK to gag and feel a "tickle" in the throat or pain is just irresponsible. Would you play, walk or run on a sprained ankle, or with any kind of pulled muscle? At least Mr. Anderson talks about breathing and ease of production. Mr Catona's concept of facial tension is just wrong and where is the "O" vowel? A bad idea, sponsored just to make money by Abdul and Jackson.
Buyer and Singer BEWARE!!!

Huge Disappointment Reviewer: M. raderstorf "Singer" New York 04-30-2005 This product has good intentions, but DON'T be fooled into thinking it is anything special. It was made on a shoe string budget and looks like it was thrown together in a matter of an afternoon. The set includes a DVD of voice lessons, a practice CD (which is really only the audio from the DVD made to fit on a 70min CD...totally a joke) and an embarrassingly bad Karoke CD. The only reason, if you can even find one, to buy this set is for the voice lessons on the DVD. If I were Gary Catona I would be ashamed to have name on this poor product.

a little bummed Reviewer: J. kluth 04-19-2005 Well, I was excited about this DVD set. I still work on it. but after trying it for a couple weeks, i realized that there is NOT over 3 hours of voice lessons. Id say there are 6 lessons that range from about 15-20 minutes in length. they are helpful but they promise what they dont give. Ron Anderson, for example, says he'll show you how to put songs together...and doesnt. Gary Catona's lessons (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) all seem to be basically identical in excercises and all. I dont know if i have a flawed disc or if it was made with mistakes, but Ron Anderson also says at the end of the Advanced lesson, that that same lesson was an intermediate lesson. i am just confused...maybe it was just put together really fast.
Just some honest comments from striving performer.

Just the thing to build your voice and get ready to compete Reviewer: J. Whitford Falls Church, VA USA 03-05-2005 Randy and Paula worked with voice coaches Gary Cantona and Ron Anderson to bring to the masses a great way to develop your voice and develop confidence in yourself. Whether you are singing in the shower, singing karoke with friends and family, or just trying to bring out your unique voice, you will want to own this set. It contains 1 DVD, 2 CDs and a voice manual:
- one DVD with three hours of voice lessons with Gary Cantona and Ron Anderson
- one CD with one-hour practice lessons
- one CD+G with five karaoke songs
- one manual on vocal fundamentals
If you want to develop your voice and understand professional singing techniques, this is a great place to start. There is customized trainng for beginner, intermediate, advanced, and even by age range. This is a great gift for singers, friends and family fun.
When you are ready to step up your voice training, I recommend the following:
1. The Contemporary Vocalist Improvement Course (Book and 4 CDs) by Jeannie Deva (a well known vocal trainer.)
2. Singing for the Stars (Book & 2 CDs). Vocal coach to the stars Seth Riggs puts you through your paces. He has trained Michael Jackson, Anita Baker and Natalie Cole - to name a few.
